There were a number of challenges in the product replacements for this commercial: the new peanut butter cups were wider and less deep than the originals, which meant that the twin pack was also larger.

To accommodate the new size, all of the shots containing the pack required a change of position of one of the hands. This meant a lot of painting to cover the blank areas created by re-animating the arm and hand – fortunately the actor in the commercial was wearing a plain shirt . . .

The eating shot also had to be re-animated to show the larger product, along with a restructuring of the hand.

The Nut Bar is a new product in the Reese’s range. As there was no footage available, we created a beauty shot in 3D.

Using the product itself as a reference we modelled and textured the Nut Bar and used fluid simulation to create the pouring chocolate.

To achieve the animation and flow of chocolate that the client required we undertook many tests where we adjusted the viscosity speed of the flow. This was all composited to match the look of the digital still we received.
